The Review

Overall Rating:
The good

For the way I cook, it is an excellent tool. I don't make a huge variety of dishes with it (rice, beans, dal, steel cut oats, polenta) but these are staples and I use it at least 1-2x a week. I really love that I can set it and do other things and not have to think about whether or not the food is burning, or our of water, etc.

Nitpicks

I think the newer model with the knobs is not as good - too many settings and it seems to have a "burn notice" more often than the older model. I really want to love the "one pot" chicken/rice type recipes that I find online, but I am pretty much always disappointed in how they come out. Its a little bit of a big gadget, but to me it is worth it.

Why this one?

I bought my first instant pot when I lived in a tiny studio in new york and wanted something that would help contain some of the cooking smells, and could be used to cook rice and meals. I also was part of a bean club at that time and wanted an easier way to cook beans. I used to have the 3qt, but upgraded to the 6qt once I had more mouths to feed.
